Welcome to Poway’s most inspiring Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy — led by Professor Jeff Mata, who is one of only three blind BJJ black belts in the United States. Born and raised right here in Poway, our head instructor is not only a certified black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under hall of fame -- Master Baret Yoshida, but also an active competitor for Team USA in Paralympic Judo (Parajudo) and a seasoned Ironman triathlete. With real-world experience in elite-level competition and unmatched resilience, he brings a unique and powerful perspective to every class. Whether you’re training for fitness, self-defense, or competition, you’ll be learning from someone who proves that vision, discipline, and heart matter more than sight.
